In the studio

I was in Nickel and Dime studios yesterday with Kevin’s band recording four new songs. Don McCollister, an award-winning producer and all-around nice guy, was behind the console and guided us through tracking drums and bass for each of the tunes.

In addition to all the excellent gear, the studio had a super cool vibe. The studio is located in the old Towne Cinema theater in Avondale Estates. The control room is located immediately below where the projector room once was and looks out in the live room. I assume that the upstairs is now the living quarters that Nickel & Dime boasts of in their brochure. The live room, where I spent most of my time with a Vintage Fender bass, is where the seats used to be. Rumor has it that the stage was once graced by the King himself, Elvis Presley. Stage-right housed an enclosed vocal booth, though I didn’t get in there on this trip.

I can’t wait to get my songs into that studio and have them benefit from the work of Don and his assistants, namely Will and Jonathan.

Gig at Park Tavern, Sunday, March 16

Park Tavern logoKevin Stroner, Sean Bulow, Shawn Thacker and myself will be playing this Sunday, March 16 at the Park Tavern. We’ll be playing some new cover tunes (Sympathy for the Devil, Low Rider, Mary Jane’s Last Dance, Cherub Rock and more) as well as select cuts from K. Walker’s first album, 11.

I don’t have the start time yet – so check back later this week for more information. We’ll post pics from the gig sometime next week. Hope to see you there!
